Unusual gardens and special trees planned and realised by Michael Veith

My philosophy

Be it a modern, clearly structured, classic, Japanese-style house garden or an industrial project, it is always my greatest endeavor to create gardens that appear natural and do not appear artificial to the viewer! Only when a garden conveys the impression that it has always existed in this form and appears to the observer like an evolved work of art – only then is a garden perfect for me.

The basis of this work is my creativity, a distinctly good gut feeling and a special ability to recognise and use the eye for the forms of nature. I try not to lose sight of the “functionality”. I achieve this impression not only through intensive planning and elaboration, but also through the choice of suitable shrubs, stones and materials. Equally important to me is the preservation of old, healthy and well-formed trees. This is a special challenge to include these trees in the design through skilful pruning and to give the garden the naturalness it has grown into. So I usually have the finished work of art, a ‘Veith Garden’, in my mind’s eye from the first time I walk through and view a garden to be designed. A skill I owe to my active stays in Japan.

My gardens are art – so I see my gardens as a living total work of art, in absolute harmony with their surroundings and the owner. This can best be seen in my own garden at Domaine Jaegerthal! Here, the interplay with nature, the conditions such as water and listed industry, was very important to me. I think I can say that I succeeded quite well. My garden, the park of the Domaine Jaegerthal is my business card, here you can see old individual pieces, solitary trees, like I also use in the gardens of my customers!
