Surrounding area
In the northern Alsace region, which is largely untouched by tourism, nature and a unique landscape characterise the landscape. A true paradise for nature lovers, hikers, climbers, anglers and golfers. On almost every second mountain you will find a castle, ruins or an impressive rocky landscape. For golf enthusiasts in particular, the region offers a diverse selection of beautiful courses, including the golf club in Bitche (just 18 km away), la Wantzenau and my personal favourite, the “Kemperhof” golf course behind Strasbourg.
Our favourite way to spend time is with our four-legged friend in the beautiful mixed forests of the Northern Vosges National Park or exploring one of the many castles. The region is also known for its excellent Alsatian cuisine. Whether it’s a cosy meal in the Winstub zum Buerestuebel or at Anton‘s, or exploring some of the best gourmet restaurants just a few minutes away from Domaine Jaegerthal. These include the Villa Lalique, the Cheval Blanc in Lembach and Le Arnzbourg in Baerenthal.
A day trip to Strasbourg, Metz or Baden-Baden is also extremely worthwhile. Further recommendations can be found here: “my recommendations“.
Northern Alsace – as it really is.
Anyone familiar with Alsace knows Strasbourg, the Christmas market, and the Wine Route. Anyone familiar with Northern Alsace knows something different: deep forests with breathtaking views, fascinating castles, and sun-drenched clearings that invite you to take relaxing hikes. A region that has preserved its character—unspectacular yet so enchanting that most visitors keep coming back.
At Domaine Jaegerthal, the clocks seem to tick more slowly, the birds chirp more loudly, and the scents of nature enchant the senses more intensely. From here, you can discover Northern Alsace in a way that requires no to-do list—just time, curiosity, and a good host who knows where it’s truly worth going.
That’s exactly what I’ve put together for Charmingplaces: my personal insider tips for Northern Alsace—from quiet pottery studios to rustic inns to castle ruins that tell stories without making a sound.
